HIRES Exposure Meter GUI

Start of Observing


1) the system is ready for use. The progress bar is gone. The status reads 'Ready'. The observer can now use the exposure meter to autoterminate exposures or merely to monitor acquired counts (signal).


2) The user has typed in a target of 400000 counts in the large entry box at upper right, and pressed the 'Arm' button. The GUI displays an emphatic 'ARMED' warning label.


3) The user has typed in 150000 counts as the target, and armed the system. The exposure is in progress. Both plots are now updating regularly (at about 1 Hz). The RHS of the GUI offers three visual indicators of exposure progress: a progress bar and countdown in seconds at the top, and the graph on which acquired counts (in blue) slowly accumulate towards desired counts (in yellow).


4) Here is the end of a successfully autoterminated exposure. Zero seconds remain, and the exposure is 100 percent done. The blue line has risen to meet the yellow line. We can see on the LHS plot that the dark sum was minimal; signal was fairly healthy and consistent. It doesn't always look that good... Next Page...
